Jennifer McGregor‘s abstract works are playful and delicate. Her sensitivity to technique and keen sense of colour is evident in the delicate brushwork of her newest series. Calmness and subtlety define these watercolours.

Jennifer McGregor grew up in rural Alberta. She studied visual communications at the Alberta College of Art and Design and moved to Toronto for a short-lived career in design. She then studied drawing and painting at the Ontario College of Art and Design (now OCAD University). After a three year stint in Florence, Italy to study and paint, she now lives and paints in Toronto.

“I paint these watercolours to wind down. Methodical and precise, these pieces require a quiet mind, balancing the large studio paintings with their smallness and stillness.”

Artist Profile: Ryan Louis

Ryan Louis creates surreal works that flirt with the conventional. We are loving these bright and whimsical photographs.

Ryan Louis is a Toronto based visual artist who creates contemporary mixed-media and photographic images often using paper cutouts. His work is playful in nature and addresses nostalgia and the familiar. He is interested in creating open-ended stories while questioning the meaning of looking often by way of juxtaposing and recontextualing subject matter. Ryan graduated in 2009 from the University of Western Ontario after studying Media, Information, and Technoculture.

As a gift for my youngest sister, I commissioned Erin Vincent to paint her childhood teddy bear. A memento of her past immortalized in a miniature work of art.

Former Art Interiors’ employee Julie Piotrowski purchased some smalls from the Festival this year to hang in her elegant bedroom. Pretty sheets from Au Lit Fine Linens complement ephemeral works by Diliana Popva and Erin Vincent, creating a very dreamy space.

In her newest series Tasting Room, Montreal-born, Toronto-based painter Erin Rothstein captures indulgence and desire in high realism.

The Tasting Room Series, my latest still-life endeavor, was inspired by my passion for food – how it tastes, how it is presented, and how our relationship with food is cultivated. I wanted to take culinary aesthetics to new heights with this series, painting palatable treats against clean & contemporary backdrops.

My older sister Virginia and her husband Pierluigi have finally settled into their apartment, and have hung up all their art. I especially adore that she has placed the pieces in her daughter’s bedroom at a child’s eye level (for little Gianna to enjoy).

The other evening, my super talented roommate found inspiration while sifting through the Festival of Smalls online gallery.
