We are always telling clients that moving around artwork in their homes is a great way to breath new life into their collection. This holiday season, I decided to practice what I preach. As a Christmas tree and other holiday decorations made their way into our main space, my roommate and I decided to do some rearranging to make it all work together.
Friend and former Art Interiors manager Larissa Furlong boasts an impressive and personally familiar collection of art. Known to me are the works of art she purchased from the gallery over the many years we worked together. Larissa's reaction to art was always immediate: she fell in love quickly and knew when she had to own a particular piece.
Michael Revil Madjus is a Product Designer and Marketer for imm Living, a design company in Toronto that marries “functionality with a playful sensibility.” Aside from being exceptionally creative, Michael is the type of roommate a girl dreams of: super neat, wildly entertaining, and helps me pick what heels to wear for a night out. His keen eye for design is a major bonus. Michael thoughtfully houses a number of works from my overflowing art collection in his carefully curated space.
Last Sunday morning I made my way to a loft in the west end, home to Edward Griffith and Tamara Robbins Griffith, Managing Editor of Style at Home. While I cradled their eleven week old kitten, Winston, in my arms, Tamara gave me a tour of their chic and cozy home. Her passion for art and design is evident in every detail of their stylish space.
Late October, I spent ten days in London immersed in an intense cultural adventure. I found refuge sipping tea with Lisa's sister, Steffanie Brown, in her gorgeous Notting Hill flat. Despite the distance, Steffie & Garvin have built up a solid collection of work from Canadian artists. I personally adore Toronto artist Lizzie Vickery's large photograph of London in miniature - the focal point of their living room. You would hardly notice the rainy London days in their cheerful space, filled with colourful, contemporary pieces.
