art interiors' blog

Last Sunday morning I made my way to a loft in the west end, home to Edward Griffith and Tamara Robbins Griffith, Managing Editor of Style at Home. While I cradled their eleven week old kitten, Winston, in my arms, Tamara gave me a tour of their chic and cozy home. Her passion for art and design is evident in every detail of their stylish space.
John Barnwell, of J. R. Barnwell Design, Inc., welcomed me into his gorgeous home only three months after moving there. As I wandered through his rooms, I was stunned to find everything in perfect order so quickly after his move, including art up on the walls. John is an avid collector of art, and a strong believer in trusting intuition when choosing what pieces to live with. As he gave me a tour of his collection, what resonated most was that each piece had a narrative that would draw you in, whether it was the life story of the artist, or the tale of the gem he discovered on one of his travels.
Above the fireplace is one of the most common areas where people look for ‘the piece.’ We often attempt to push clients out of their comfort zone – why not try a vertical piece in a horizontal space, or an eclectic grouping, or a pairing with objects and old family photos?
