Vanessa Drew’s landscape paintings are thick with paint and full of colour. Her distinctive style uses several layers of paint and colour to create interest and vibrancy, emphasizing a connection with nature. Her skillful use of palette knives for application achieves a delicious texture and contrast, a signature element in her artwork.
“Finding magical colour combinations is what I find the most exciting part of the process,” she notes. “It’s an experiment, an exercise in trial and error to find out what works in a painting. It is a refreshing change of process from my floral work which is all very gestural and intuitive.”
After receiving her BFA from Queens University, she continued post graduate studies at Canterbury University in New Zealand.
Vanessa’s artwork can be found exhibited in many private, public, and corporate collections throughout North America. Her work can also be found in television shows such as A Handmaids Tale, Working Moms, Saving Hope, Blue Bloods, and various movie sets.
